Characteristics of Kandla Port:

  • Kandla in Kuchchh was the first port developed soon after independence.
  • It was developed to ease the volume of trade on the Mumbai port.
  • It is a tidal port.
  • It caters to exports and imports of the granary and industrial belts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
  • It caters to the convenient handling of exports and imports for northern and western states of India.
