Write a short note on the Arms Act of 1878.

The Indian Arms Act of 1878 stipulated that no Indians will be allowed to bear arms without a proper permit. Nationalist leaders like Surendranath Bannerjee called this Act as a badge of racial inferiority that was imposed on Indians by the racist British administration. It was a major humiliation for the newly emerging middle class in India and they fought tooth and nail to oppose this unjust measure.
