Write a short note on biodiversity of India.
India is one of the twelve mega bio-diverse countries of the world. It has 47,000 species of plants including 15,000 flowering plants. India occupies tenth place in world and fourth place in Asia in plant diversity. Besides its floral diversity, India is also home to approximately 90,000 species of animals.
The country has 2000 species of birds, which constitute 13% of the world’s total. There are 2,546 species of fish which constitutes nearly 12% of the world’s stock. India also has 5% to 8% of the world’s amphibians, reptiles and mammals.
