Many animals move from one place to another at a particular period of the year or during a particular stage of their life cycle for several reasons. This movement is called migration.
Many mammals and insects are known to migrate seasonally in search of favourable climatic conditions. For example, reindeer migrate to warmer regions in the south where sufficient food is available. They return to their original habitat in North America after a few months when the snow there starts melting.
Fish can remain long in cold water; however, birds need to stay warm to survive. Hence, they migrate to warmer regions during winter. Because India has a warm climate, many migratory birds are seen. For example, the Siberian crane comes from Siberia to places such as Bharatpur in Rajasthan and Sultanpur in Haryana.
