why were the assertive nationalists disillusioned with the leadership of the early nationalist

The assertive nationalists disillusioned with the leadership of the early nationalist becuase the latter wanted to achieve self-government and they strove for autonomy within the Empire and not for absolute independence while the former wanted ‘swaraj’ or complete independence.

The early nationalists believed in constitutional methods and worked within the framework of the law. They sent petitions and requests to the home government for reforming the Indian political order. But the assertive nationalists were aggressive their approach and believed that the English would neve leave India until and unless firm and aggressive measures were taken against them.
