Why thar is a desert

why thar is a desert.

The Thar Desert lies in leeward side of the Aravalli Mountains and thus gets scanty rainfall. Secondly, the desert lie in the belt of trade winds which blow from northeast in the Northern Hemisphere and south east in the Southern Hemisphere. Thus, these winds blow from east to west. These winds shed their moisture in the north eastern parts of the country as it is a hilly region. By the time they come to the Thar Desert, they had lost nearly all their moisture causing little or no rain in the region. Thus, Thar is a desert.
