Why is air called breath of life?

Why is air called breath of life?

Dear student,

This is because air contains oxygen which is essential for us to carry out our vital life processes and thus to survive.

(Air contains oxygen, which we inhale in order to release energy to carry out vital life processes and then exhale the carbon dioxide, whose accumulation would be fatal to us. Without oxygen, we would not be able to survive. So in other words, air containing oxygen keeps us alive and gives us life.)
