Why did the Sergeant turn his questions to the ‘Professor’ repeatedly? What was the result of this action?

The Professor interrupted the Sergeant’s lecture and corrected him by saying that the muzzle velocity of the rifle was two thousand, four hundred and forty feet per second.
This was not appreciated by the Sergeant and perhaps in the hope of revenge, he turned all his . questions to the Professor. However, the only result of this action was to enhance the Professor’s glory.
