Why did the First Enclosure Movement take place?

First Enclosure Movement took place due to the following reasons:

  1. When wool prices went up in the international market in the 16th century, farmers wanted to expand wool production to earn profits.
  2. Rich farmers wanted to control large compact blocks of land to improve sheep breeding and ensure good feed for them.
  3. To gain massive profit from the production of wool for exports, the rich farmers enclosed the land that was earlier common land.
