Why did the First Enclosure Movement take place?
First Enclosure Movement took place due to the following reasons:
- When wool prices went up in the international market in the 16th century, farmers wanted to expand wool production to earn profits.
- Rich farmers wanted to control large compact blocks of land to improve sheep breeding and ensure good feed for them.
- To gain massive profit from the production of wool for exports, the rich farmers enclosed the land that was earlier common land.
