Who was Cheran Senguttuvan?

Cheran Senguttuvan

Cheran Senguttuvan was one of the most popular kings in the line of the Chera rulers from Sangam Age. Two important literary works from the Sangam Age -‘Padirupattu’ and ‘Ahananuru’ contain a lot of information about him. The Tamil epic ‘Silappadikaram’ also tells a lot about Cheran’s military feats. According to this work, he embarked upon an expedition upto the Himalayan mountains, defeated his enemies across the Ganges and hoisted the Chera flag on the Himalayas. Apparently, he also brought back stones from there and built a temple in the memory of Kannagi.
