Who was Charaka? What did he do?

Charaka was a famous physician who wrote a book on medicine known as the Charaka Samhita about 2000 years ago. He stated that the human body has 360 bones, which was much larger number than the 200 bones that is recognised in modern anatomy. He arrived at this figure by counting the teeth, joints and cartilages.
