- Francis Drake: An English privateer and admiral of the 16th century, he was one of the central figures in the solidification of Great Britain as a naval power in the Americas and was the second captain to circumnavigate the globe. He was also the second in command at the British victory over Spanish Armada and was extremely successful in his raids and attacks against Spanish colonies in the Caribbean.
