What is the functional segment of a DNA? Explain.

Genes are the functional segments of DNA.

The are the smallest units of DNA which are capable of performing independent function. The main function of DNA at molecular level is production of mRNA (messenger RNA) which ultimatly form Proteins. Genea are the functional units of DNA as they are capable of producing mRNA.
