What are the measures to reduce this kind of unemployment in India?
Seasonal employment means a situation where a people are not able to find a job in a particular season It occurs mainly in agricultural industries or factories manufacturing only wollens clothes.
Measure to reduce seasonal employment in India:
- Developmental activities allied to agriculture such as dairy farming and animal husbandry to provide employment throughout the year.
- Promotion of multiple cropping i.e. raising more than one crop on the same piece of land in a year by spread of irrigation, use of harmless fertilizers and mechanisation.
- In rural areas, public investment is required for field irrigation, drainage, flood control, roads, education and health centre.
- Mechanisation of peak season activities so that a proportion of the labour force is permanently shifted from agriculture to non-seasonal activities and surplus labour in the slack season is reduced.
