What is hygroscopic water? What is its significance?

Hygroscopic water is formed by the water particles captured form the atmosphere and held by soil particles tightly. This water is stored in spaces between the soil particles and made available to the roots of the plant and small animals living inside the soil. Fertilisers added to the soil also dissolve in this hygroscopic water and are absorbed by the roots of the plants. Hence, hygroscopic water plays an important role in the environment.
