In an electrical installation , an earthing system or grounding system connects specific parts of that installation with the Earth’s conductive surface for safety and functional purposes. The point of reference is the Earth’s conductive surface. Also in a high power handling electrical instruments, metal part of the cabinet is connected to earth by low resistance cables
Earthing is the process of transferring the immediate discharge of electricity directly to the earth plate, by means of low resistance electrical cables or wires. In case of a short circuit due to leakages arising from weak insulation or damage, the earthing wire safely removes excess electricity and passes it on to the ground. Safety to persons operating high power electrical systems is ensured by earthing.
