The main general guidelines for the contraction of a frequency distribution are :
(i) All class intervals should be of equal size
(ii) The lower limit of the first class should either be 0.5 or multiple of 5.
(iii) We should avoid odd sized class interval
(iv) Open-end classes should be avoided
