State the new cartesian sign convention followed for reflection of light by spherical mirrors.

New cartesian sign convention for the use of the mirror equations :

  1. All the distances should be measured from the pole.
  2. The distances measured in the direction of incident light to be taken as positive.
  3. The distances measured in the opposite direction of incident light to be taken as negative.
  4. Heights measured upward from the principal axis are taken as positive.
  5. Heights measured downward from the principal axis are taken as negative.
