State the basic requirement for sexual reproduction. Write the importance of such reproduction in nature.
In sexual reproduction two sexes, male and female are involved to produce new generations.
Importance of Sexual Reproduction:
(i) It results in new combination genes i.e., genetic variations which promotes diversity of characters whereas it is not possible in case of asexual reproduction.
(ii) Sexual reproduction plays an important role in origin of new species having different characteristic which is not possible in case of asexual reproduction.
(iii) It introduces variability, that leads to continual evolution of various species to from better organisms. Evolution is not possible in case of asexual reproduction.
