China is a communist country where elections are held regularly after every five years, still it can not be called a democratic country in the true sense. The reasons are:

  1. The country’s parliament is called the National People’s Congress which appoints the President of the country. The Parliament has nearly 3000 members elected from all over China but the leader is not elected by the people. Some members are elected by the army. It can not be regarded as a democratic process.

  2. Again for contesting election to the Parliament, the candidates need the approval of the Chinese Communist Party. Only the members of the Communist Party and its eight small allies are allowed to contest the election. Severely limiting the number of candidates is not a sign of democracy.

  3. The government is always formed by the Communist Party. This one party rule is not the indication of a true democracy.

Thus, we can conclude that China can not be described as a democratic country in a true sense.
