Thorny forests and scrub forests are found in the North-Western part of India including semi-arid areas of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Characteristics of thorny and scrub forests are as follows :
- Trees are scattered and have long roots penetrating deep into the soil to get moisture. Stems are succulent to conserve water.
- A few animals can survive in these type of forests as they adapt themselves to the environment, e.g. rat, mice, rabbit, fox, wolf, tiger, lion, wild ass, horse and camel.
