In which region are the tropical thorny forests and scrub forests found in India? Mention any two characteristics of such type of vegetation.

Thorny forests and scrub forests are found in the North-Western part of India including semi-arid areas of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

Characteristics of thorny and scrub forests are as follows :

  1. Trees are scattered and have long roots penetrating deep into the soil to get moisture. Stems are succulent to conserve water.
  2. A few animals can survive in these type of forests as they adapt themselves to the environment, e.g. rat, mice, rabbit, fox, wolf, tiger, lion, wild ass, horse and camel.
