If fifty per cent of the leaves are removed from a plant

If fifty per cent of the leaves are removed from a plant, the rate of transpiration by the remaining
leaves increases. Explain.

On reducing or removing 50 % of leaves from the plant, the rate of transpiration by the remaining leaves will decrease because rate of transpiration depends upon the surface area of the leaves. Thus, plant with larger leaf surface area have higher rate of transpiration as compared to the plant with smaller leaf surface area.
