How does National Human Rights Commission help the citizen to enjoy their human rights?
The National Human Rights Commission was set-up in 1993. It is an independent commission like Judiciary. The commission is appointed by the President and it includes retired judges, officers and eminent citizens.
It focuses on helping the victim secure their human rights. If a person feels that his/her human right is violated by a person/institution/governmental department then he/she can lodge a complaint in the Human Rights Commission. The commission is allowed to carry on its independent inquiry.
So, in a way it is a guardian of the constitutional rights given to the citizens. Human rights include the rights mentioned in the UN sponsored international treaties that India has signed.
