How are the following caused and what is the effect of each of them on our environment?
(i) Depletion of ozone layer
(ii) Acid rain.

(i) Ozone depletion: It is caused by the increased release of chlorofluorocarbons, which
release chlorine ions, which in turn, destroy the ozone layer. The continuous depletion of ozone layer has led to the formation of the ozone hole. This allows the passage of harmful UV rays, which cause skin cancer, skin darkening, and corneal cataract in human beings
.
(ii) Acid rain: Pollutants such as sulphur dioxide and nitrous oxide released from factories and industries and the burning of fossil fuels get dissolved in the rain water and get converted into acids. This rain when falls on the earth damages plants and animals. It also turns the soil acidic.
