How are ‘movements’ different from interest groups? Explain with examples.

Most of the movements are issue-specific. They seek to achieve a single objective within a limited time frame while interest groups have many objectives:

  • Movements try to achieve their goal within a limited time while interest groups fight for their goals over a longer tenure.
For example: The movement of Nepal was aimed at regaining control over the government from the king.
  • Usually interest groups seek to promote the interests of a particular section or group of society.
