Advantages of the local government:

  1. It has helped to deepen the democracy in our country as more people can participate.
  2. Increased women’s representation and voice in our democracy.

Drawbacks associated with local government:

  1. Elections are held regularly, but gram sabhas are not held regularly.
  2. Most of the state governments have not transferred significant powers to the local government.
  3. They are not given adequate resources.
