Elaborate on the Permanent Settlement of 1793

Elaborate on the Permanent Settlement of 1793.

By the terms of the Permanent Settlement of 1793, the rajas and taluqdars were recognized as zamindars . They were entrusted with the collection of rent from peasants and payment of revenue to the Company. The amount which was to be paid was fixed for a permanent tenure. This was expected to ensure a regular flow of revenue and encourage the zamindars to invest in the improvement of the land. Because the revenue demand from the State did not increase over time, the zamindars were expected to benefit from increased production from the land.
