Define the terms ‘nutrition’ and ‘nutrients’. List two differences between ‘Holozoic nutrition’ and ‘Saprophytic nutrition’. Give two examples of each.

Nutrition: It refers to the process of acquiring source of energy from outside to inside our body.

Nutrients: They are different sources of energy acquired by living organisms by nutrition.

Holozoic Nutrition Saprophytic Nutrition
In it, living organisms take up complex food, that is broken down into simpler forms inside the body of an organism. In it, an organisms obtains its nutrients by digesting dead and decaying organic matter.
A specialised digestive system is involved. Example: human beings and cow. Organisms lack specialised digestive system. They produce enzymes, that digest the organic matter outside the cell. Digested nutrients are absorbed into cell. Example : Certain bacteria and fungi etc.
