“Both political party and candidate have to strictly follow the rules and the model code of conduct for election campaign”. Justify.
In democracy, political parties and candidates have the right to conduct their election campaigns so that every political party and candidate gets a fair and equal chance to compete. All the political parties in India have to follow rules and agree a model code of conduct for election campaign.
According to this, no party or candidate can
- use any place of worship for election propaganda.
- use government vehicles, aircrafts and officials for elections.
- lay foundation stones of any project, take any big policy decision or make any promise of providing public facilities once the date of the election is declared.
- bribe or threat the voters, appeal to them in the name of religion, spend more money than the fixed amount (for Lok Sabha 7 25 lakh and for Assembly 10 lakh) etc.
