Analyse the events during every stage of cell cycle and notice how the following two parameters change:
(i) Number of chromosomes (N) per cell,
(ii) Amount of DNA content © per cell.
(a)In S of synthesis phase of cell cycle, DNA synthesis or the replication occurs. The amount of DNA per cell doubles. If it is 2C then it becomes 4C. There is no increase in chromosome number.
(b)If a cell possessess 2N number of chromosomes at Gj phase of interphase, after S-phase, the number of chromosomes is the same i.e., 2N.
