Analyse the circumstances which compelled the government to start targeted anti-poverty programmes? Mention the names of any two such programmes.
A large number of poor people are employed in agricultural sector. Since, they are not able to take advantage from the opportunities created for them, the growth in the agricultural sector is much below expectations. Apart from agriculture, there is very little scope for jobs in other sectors in rural areas.
In urban areas also people do not get adequate employment and face seasonal unemployment due to ’ which there is poverty in urban areas also. Such circumstances compelled for targeted anti-poverty programmes.

- National Employment Guarantee Funds
