A solution of copper sulphate was kept in an iron pot. After a few days, the iron pot was found to have a number of holes in it. Explain with the help of equation what reaction took place

Iron (Fe) is more reactive than copper (Cu). Hence, when a solution of copper sulphate is placed in Iron pot, iron metal from Iron pot displaces the copper from the solution and Single Displacement Reaction will take place. The reaction is as follows:

CuSO4 + Fe → FeS04 + Cu

Hence, holes will appear on pot, because there is displacement reaction taking place between Iron metal and CuSO4 solution.
