A proton enters a magnetic field at right angles to it as shown in figure. What is the direction of the force acting on the proton?
According to Fleming’s Left Hand Rule, the force acting on a current carrying conductor placed at right angles to magnetic field is perpendicular to the direction of current (i.e., flow of positive charges) and the magnetic field.
The arrow showing the direction of proton represents the direction of current in a conductor, therefore, the force acting on the conductor is perpendicular to the plane of the paper and in upward direction.
