10 Differences between:
Hi Rangaramanujam,
Some basic differences between plants and animals:
Plants | Animals |
---|---|
Plants are generally rooted in one place and do not move on their own. | Most animals have the ability to move fairly freely. |
Plants contain chlorophyll. | Animals do not contain chlorophyll. |
Plants can make their own food and hence, are autotrophic in nature. | Animals cannot prepare their own food and hence, are heterotrophic in nature. |
Plants give off oxygen and take in carbon dioxide given off by animals. | Animals give off carbon dioxide which plants need to make food and take in oxygen which they need to breathe. |
Plants cells have cell walls and other structures differ from those of animals. | Animal cells do not have cell walls and have different structures than plant cells |
Plants have either no or very basic ability to sense. | Animals have a much more highly developed sensory and nervous system. |
Growth of plants is not restricted by time limit. | Growth of animals occurs only for a definite period of time. |
Plants excrete their waste in the form of vapour, gum, sap, resins, etc. | Animals excrete their waste in the form of urea, uric acid, ammonia, etc. |
Differences between living and non-living things:
Living things | Non-living things |
---|---|
Living things have a cellular structure. | Non-living things do not have a cellular structure. |
All living things move of their own accord. | Non-living things do not move of their own accord. |
Living things have the ability to respond to stimuli. | Non-living things lack the ability to respond to stimuli. |
Living things grow. | Non-living things do not grow. |
Respiration occurs in living things. | Respiration does not occur in non-living things. |
Living things reproduce. | Non-living things cannot reproduce. |
Excretion takes place in living things. | Non-living things do not excrete. |
Death occurs in living things. | Non-living things do not die. |
