  1. What is pollination? State its significance.
  2. How does fertilisation occur in flowers? Name the parts of the flower that develop into
    1.seed, and
    2.fruit after fertilisation.

1.A - Pollen grain.
B - Pollen tube.
C - Ovary.
D - Egg cell/ Female Gamete.

2.Pollination refers to the transference of pollen grains form anther of a flower to the stigma of another flower or its flowers. Seeds and fruits are formed after pollination and fertilization.

3.The pollen lands on stigma or germination pollen tubes emerges from it and grows into style to reach the egg in ovule. Here fusion of male and female gamete is called fertilization. Other male gamete fuses to 2 polar nuclei. It is called triple fusion.

  • Ovule develops into seed.
  • Ovary develops into fruit.
