What is first aids ?

First aid is the immediate and temporary relief given to the victim of an accident or sudden illness, until the services of a doctor can be called for life is full of accidents. Accidents can occur anywhere, any time and with any one even at the safest place like home. It may also occur in school, on play field, industries or elsewhere. So we should know what to do in such situations.
There are four aims of rendering First Aid:
(i) To keep patient alive till the doctor attend him/her.
(ii) To relieve pain or distress of the patient.
(iii) To promote recovery and also involve preventing the condition.
(iv) It needs to be immediate in revere accidents.
Basic requirement of First Aid:
(i) A First Aid box or kit should be kept handy which contains all necessary equipment.
(ii) Patient must be saved from shock.
(iii) Artificial respiration must be given in a case where patient’s breathing has stopped.
Importance of First Aid:
(i) It minimises the length and extent of medical treatment.
(ii) It reduces the chances of permanent damage.
(iii) It helps in preventing the infections of the wound as it helps in cleaning the wound.
(iv) It gives the ability to respond to emergencies such as natural disasters. It reduces the chances of permanent damage.
