‘AIDS’ stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. Its causative agent is Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). It is transmitted from an infected person to a healthy person in the following ways.
(1) Through sexual intercourse, if one of the partner is infected
(2) Through contaminated blood transfusion
(3) The virus from infected mother may cross through the placenta and reach the embryo in the womb
