The Battle of Buxar was fought in 1764 between the English East India Company and the combined armies of Mir Qasim (the nawab of Bengal), the nawab of Awadh and the mughal emperor Shah Alam II. The employees of the Company misused their trading privileges. They sold their duty free trade permits to the Indain merchants. This led to huge loss of revenues to the Bengal nawab. To put an end to this, the nawab abolished all duties on internal trade. Thus, Battle of Buxar broke out in 1763 between Mir Qasim and the British.
