What management practices are common in dairy and poultry farming?

Following management practices are common in diary and poultry farming:

i) Housing and Shelter - Both poultry and cattle should be housed in proper shelters under hygienic conditions. Shelters should be cleaned regularly. They should be sheltered under well-ventilated roofed sheds that protect them from rain, heat and cold. Over-crowding should be prevented. The floor of the shelters should be kept dry.

ii) Food - Both cattle and poultry need balanced rations containing all nutrients in proportionate amounts. The feed of cattle and poultry are well supplemented with vitamins, minerals and micronutrients. Protein level is kept high. Hygienic food should be given to prevent the cattle and birds from falling ill. Clean and adequate amount of water should be provided for drinking.

iii) Protection from diseases - Vaccinations should be given regularly to both cattle and poultry to protect them from major viral and bacterial diseases. Also diseased animals should be provided with appropriate and quick treatment as well as kept in isolation to prevent the spread of the disease. The poultry and cattle farm should be free from flies, ticks, mice, rats, cats etc.
