The main elements in the Islamic architecture is the introduction of arches and beams, and it is the arcuate style of construction.
A horizontal beam across two vertical columns is called “trabeate” or “corbelled”.This design was used in construction of temples,mosques,tombs and in buildings attached to large stepped-wells (baolis) between 8-13 century. While arcuate is when the weight of the superstructure (part of buildings above ground floor) above the doors and windows was carried by arches .
