“One hundred and fifty years ago, the first Indian cricketers, the Parsis, had to struggle to find an open space to play in”.Explain.
The first Indian community to start playing the game ‘cricket’ was the Parsis. But Indians were considered to have no talents for the games. When the Parsis started playing cricket, they were not allowed to play in the Bombay Gymkhana club, a whites-only club.
The Parsi players used the public park for practice. But the park was unfit for cricket because the polo ponies of the Bombay Gymkhana dug up the surface. The colonial authorities favoured their own countrymen. When it was cleared to the Parsis, they built their own gymkhana, ‘the Parsi Gymkhana.’
Thus, it can be concluded that one hundred and fifty years ago, the first Indian criketers, the Parsis had to struggle to find an open space to play in.
