Neurospora an Ascomycetes fungus has been used as a biological tool to understand the
mechanism of plant genetics much in the same way as Drosophila has been used to study animal genetics. What makes Neurospora as a genetic tool?

Neurospora (pink bread mould) is often called Drosophila of plant kingdom. It is haploid in nature and every mutation can express immediately. Beadle and Tatum used it as experimental tool to find out that genes express their effect through synthesis of specific enzymes.
