Name the types of waves and two examples associated with
(i) compressions and rarefactions
(ii) crests and troughs.
There are two types of waves
(a) longitudinal waves and (b) transverse waves
e.g.
(i) The waves which travel along a slinky when it is pushed and pulled at one end, are the longitudinal waves. The following figure shows longitudinal waves.
(ii) The waves produced by moving one end of a long rope (or spring) up and down rapidly whose other end is fixed, are transverse wave as shown in figure below.
