How are transgenic animals used in chemical safety testing?
Animals that have had their DNA manipulated to possess and express an extra (foreign) gene are known as transgenic animals, e.g. transgenic rats, rabbits, pigs, sheep, cows and fish. Over 95% of all the existing transgenic animals are mice.
