The features of active and passive citizens of France were as follows :
- In France, only men above 25 years of age who paid taxes equal to atleast 3 days of a labourer’s wage were given the status of active citizen. They were entitled to vote.
- The remaining men and women who were not entitled to vote were called 'passive citizens’.
- In 1791, to become an elector or a member of the National Assembly, citizen had to fulfill certain criteria. This criteria specified that citizen had to become a taxpayer
