Examine the present nature of caste system

In spite of the various efforts by the Indian Government and socio-economic changes the caste system has not disappeared from contemporary India.
(i) Some of the caste aspects have persisted. Even now most people marry within their own caste or tribe.
(ii) Untouchability has not ended completely despite constitutional provisions.
(iii) Effects of centuries of advantages and disadvantages in the caste system continue to be felt today.
(iv) Those groups that did not have access to education or were prohibited from acquiring it have naturally lagged behind.
Besides, caste continues to be closely linked to economic status.
