Inspite of large population of cattle in India, milk production is still not able to meet the present demand. Can you suggest a probable reason for this observation? Also, mention the names of two popular species of cattle in India.
Large population of cattle is present in our country, but milk production is meagre because of the following reasons
- The poor quality of feed given to cattle. Most of the cattles are indigenous breeds and give limited amount of milk.
- Proper housing of cattle is not done due to which they suffer from various diseases.
Cattles in India belong to different species
- Bos indicus (Cows)
- Bos bubalis (Buffaloes).
