The following reactions take place during the extraction of zinc from zinc blende.
Roasting 2ZnS + 3$O _{ 2 }$ ------» 2ZnO + 2$SO _{ 2 }$
Reduction ZnO + C (coke) --------> Zn + CO
Both these reactions are taking place at very high temperature conditions.
