Heterotrophic nutrition is of the following types:
(i) Saprotrophic nutrition In this mode of nutrition organisms obtain nutrients from dead and decaying organic matter, e.g. fungi, yeast and bacteria.
(it) Parasitic nutrition It refers to die mode of obtaining nutrition from the body of other organism.
The organisms which obtain food is called parasite, while the organism from which food is absorbed is called as the host, e.g. Cuscuta (amarbel), Plasmodium, ticks etc.
(iii) Holozoic nutrition In this type of nutrition, organisms obtain complex organic matter in the form of solid food which is digested and then absorbed into the cells for its utilisation, e.g. Amoeba, frog and human beings.
