Indian companies are prohibited by law from listing rupee denominated shares directly on foreign stock markets. Therefore they issue such shares to a Domestic Custodian Bank which has an office within India. The DCBs request some Overseas Depository Bank (ODB) situated in some foreign countries for issuing shares in form of dollan denominated CDRs.
